WILMINGTON – St. Elizabeth scored 20 points in the fourth quarter to come from behind to defeat Archmere, 43-35, on Feb. 6.
The Lady Vikings were down, 28-23, going into the final stanza before they took the lead with a 10-0 run. Alanna Speaks and Julie McCarron had two field goals each, and the St. Elizabeth defense forced the Auks into some tough situations. The Vikings then hit 10 of 16 free throws in the fourth to hold off the visitors.
The first half was a back-and-forth affair as both teams played solid defense. St. Elizabeth trailed, 15-13, when Alexis Bromwell hit a three-point shot, and Alexis Lee added a putback with five seconds to go to give the Vikings an 18-15 halftime lead.
The Auks dominated the third quarter, 13-5, behind seven points from Amanda Denning and four from Danaziah Brown. Freshman Emma McCann hit a fadeaway jumper at the end of the third to give her team the five-point advantage.
Speaks led the Vikings with 14 points, while Bromwell had 10 and McCarron eight. The Vikings are now 10-2 and begin a busy week on Tuesday when they host Ursuline at 7:30 p.m.
The Auks got 12 points from Denning and 10 from Brown. The team is 9-7 and travels to Charter on Tuesday for a 3:30 p.m. tip.
