Week brings light schedule, but big games for girls basketball teams

The second full week of January is pretty light on the schedule, but it includes some important games.

basketballTuesday

St. Thomas More (6-1) at Polytech (2-8), 4 p.m. The Ravens defeated neighboring Polytech, 61-43, in a tournament on Dec. 19.

Delaware Military Academy (4-2) at St. Mark’s (3-5), 5:15 p.m. The Spartans earned a huge overtime win on Saturday on the road at A.I. DuPont and now face a tough Seahawks team at home.

Thursday

St. Thomas More at Christiana (5-3), 5:30 p.m.

Ursuline (6-3) at Cardinal O’Hara (Pa.) (11-0), 7 p.m. The Raiders face one of the better teams in the country, ranked 12th by USA Today. Ursuline is coming off a nice home win over St. Elizabeth last week and a win over 7-4 Archbishop Ryan (Pa.) over the weekend. The Lions defeated Sanford, 48-46, on Sunday night.

Friday

Archmere (7-3) at Concord (10-0), 5:15 p.m.

Newark Charter (5-4) at Padua (2-6), 5:15 p.m.

St. Elizabeth (6-1) at Caravel (6-3), 7:15 p.m. The Vikings earned a nice home win on Saturday. They will take their balanced scoring attack to Caravel, which seeks its third straight win.

Sunday

Ursuline at Neumann-Goretti (Pa.) (11-0), 12:40 p.m. The Raiders meet the fifth-ranked (USA Today) or seventh-ranked (MaxPreps) team in the country. They had a chance to watch the Saints at the Diamond State Classic.
