CLAYMONT – With a bad taste lingering from Friday’s loss to Concord, the Archmere field hockey team took care of business at home on Sept. 12, shutting out Newark Charter, 6-0. The Auks scored three goals in each half, with senior Leah DaCosta netting all of them in the second half.

The game was scoreless for the first 10 minutes before the Auks found their scoring touch. Lorin Donovan and Delaney Dearing scored 37 seconds apart to give the hosts a 2-0 lead. Archmere dominated possession throughout the first half, and three minutes before intermission, Caroline Donovan scored off a penalty corner when her shot from the top of the circle was deflected high over the Patriots’ goalie.

Little changed in the second half, as Newark Charter struggled for any meaningful possession. DaCosta scored for the first time with 26:30 remaining as she knocked one in after a scramble in front of the net. It took her three minutes to get her second. This time, she stole the ball and drove the field, and her shot was deflected past the goalie. Finally, at the 9:43 mark, DaCosta took a cross from Dearing and sent it home.
