Auks overwhelm Conrad, advance to boys lacrosse quarterfinals

CLAYMONT – The fifth-seeded Archmere Auks scored early and often to cruise past No. 12 Conrad, 20-2, on May 24 in a boys lacrosse tournament opening-round matchup. Mitchell Moyer and Cole Bauer each scored five goals to pace the Auks.

Archmere scored the first 11 goals of the game. Bauer scored first, while Moyer added two straight for a quick 3-0 lead with 8: 59 left in the first quarter. Jacob DeBattista and Ethan Kates added goals, and Evan Hernick scored  for a 6-0 lead. The Auks got 2 more goals before the end of the first quarter.
Moyer and Bauer scored twice early in the second quarter for the 11-0 lead.  The Red Wolves’ Joseph Ambler scored with 8:18 left in the second quarter, but the Auks tallied the next seven goals to lead, 17-1, going into halftime. The second half saw the Auks get three goals as Ninmal Patel, Luke Grant and Nolan Collins scored.
The Auks (11-4) will now face fourth-seeded Cape Henlopen on the road on Saturday at 6 p.m. The Auks lost, 11-9, to Cape on April 22. The Red Wolves (11-5) made their first-ever state tournament in boys lacrosse.
