CLAYMONT – After falling behind by a pair of runs to open the game, Archmere’s baseball team responded in a big way to defeat Concord, 10-3, on April 11. The win snapped a three-game losing streak for the Auks.

Brian Downey would drive in two runs for the Raiders in the top of the first with two outs, but it would be all Archmere after that. In the bottom of the first, the Auks also struck with two outs. A single by Tommy Alexander put runners at first and third, and Max Gioffre brought both runners home with a triple to the fence in right-center.
The Auks’ bats were just warming up; they put some distance between themselves and the Raiders with a five-run second. Jason Roux led off with a walk and reached third on an errant pickoff attempt. A sacrifice fly to left off the bat of Pat McVey scored Roux. Liam Delaney then walked, took second on a wild pitch and stole third. He, too, scored on a sac fly, this one also to left, from Colin Lynch.
A single by Mike Dellose and another walk, this one to Tighe Watson, set the stage for Alexander. He drilled a high fastball deep to left and over the fence, making the score 7-2. Two more Auks would reach base before a fly out ended the inning.

Archmere picked up single runs in the fourth, fifth and six innings, the final one via a homer by Dellose. Dellose was also Archmere’s starting pitcher, but he gave way to Emmett Bice in the second. Bice went 4 2/3 innings, allowed just three hits and a run before giving way to Jack Nielsen in the seventh.
The Auks evened their record at 3-3. They travel to Wilmington Christian on Wednesday at 3:45 p.m. before playing three straight noon starts over the Easter break next week.
Dillon Coughenour had two hits for Concord (0-7), which looks for its first win Thursday at home at 3:45 p.m. against A.I. DuPont.
