Catholic Charities collects diapers for families in need

WILMINGTON – Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Wilmington wants to protect the bottom line – babies’ bottoms! The organization is holding a diaper drive across the diocese throughout May to benefit the Bayard House diaper bank. Donors can drop off diapers, hygiene items, grocery store gift cards or cash donations at all Charities locations during regular business hours.

As the only affiliate of the National Diaper Bank Network in Delaware, Catholic Charities supplies diapers to families in need for their children under the age of three. Each family is eligible for up to six distributions of diapers per year.

Most licensed day care centers require a full-day’s supply of disposable diapers, according to Charities. Without them, low-income parents cannot take advantage of free or subsidized childcare. A healthy change of diapers costs $100 or more each month for all ages, and food-assistance programs like SNAP and WIC focus solely on food.

Families in need of diapers or who know a family that could benefit from the diaper bank should call Bayard House at (302) 654-1184. For information about locations accepting donations, call (302) 655-9624.
