CLAYMONT – Archmere’s volleyball team kept its season going with a 3-1 win over Newark Charter on Nov. 5. The set scores were 25-27, 25-13, 25-11 and 25-20. The Auks advanced to the quarterfinal round with the win.

Freshman Julia Kochie led the way for the home team with 14 kills and 18 digs, while junior Lexi Kelly added 11 kills.

volleyballThe atmosphere inside Moglia Fieldhouse was electric, as both schools had a big student turnout. Newark Charter provided the spark late in the first set, rallying from a 24-20 deficit to take the win. Archmere responded with strong defense in the second and third sets, taking them easily.

The fourth set was back and forth until junior Nikki Kelly had two big kills, including the one for match point. She and her teammates wanted no part of a fifth set.

“We didn’t want them to win the fourth set and have the momentum going in the deciding set, so we were happy to end it in four,” she said.

The Auks will face Tatnall in the quarterfinals on Tuesday night at St. Mark’s High School. The Patriots finished 9-8, including their first-ever playoff win in any sport. Abigail Carbajal had 14 kills and 17 digs, while Abigail Cannon added 12 kills and 19 digs.
