WILMINGTON – Goals were scarce Tuesday afternoon when fifth-ranked Padua and fourth-ranked Sanford met in field hockey at Forbes Field, but a late goal by senior Gabriella DelliCompagni was the difference in a 1-0 Pandas win.

DelliCompagni scored with 6:40 to go in the contest off an assist from Abigail Boudart. The Pandas improved to 9-1 with the win.

In a defensive battle, Padua held the Warriors to two shots for the game, while the Pandas managed six. Padua controlled possession most of the first half, but the Warriors’ defense did not give up any quality scoring chances.

Sanford applied some pressure early in the second half, but Padua’s defense was just as stingy.

The Pandas are at home again at Forbes Field on Friday, when they host St. Mark’s (5-5-1) at 3:45 p.m. Padua defeated the Spartans, 2-0, on Oct. 1.

Sanford fell to 9-2 and will be home Thursday against Tower Hill, which gave the Warriors their only other loss, a 3-0 shutout on Sept. 23. That game begins at 4 p.m.
