Early runs lift Spartans past Vikings on diamond

MILLTOWN – The St Mark’s Spartans scored seven runs in the first three innings as they defeated the St Elizabeth’s Vikings, 10-2, on April 4. It was the second meeting in five days between the Catholic rivals.

The Spartans, 5-0 and ranked first in the state, got four hits and four runs batted in from Ricky Gannett, and two hits and a pair of RBI from Austin Colmery. Billy Sullivan and Josh Venti combined for a four-hitter while striking out 15 Vikings.
The Vikings (1-3) were led by Nate Thomas, who had two hits. They play again on Friday at 4 p.m. at Canby Park against St. Andrews in a game moved from Thursday. The Spartans host Archmere on Wednesday at 4 p.m., also in a game rescheduled from Thursday.
