WILMINGTON – Tower Hill scored three runs in the fourth and fifth innings, then held off a St. Elizabeth comeback attempt for a 6-5 win in nonconference baseball on March 29.
The Hillers trailed, 3-0, heading into their half of the fourth, when they scored three to tie. With runners on second and third with no one out, Harry Quimby scored on a fielder’s choice ground ball, with the throw to the plate slightly off line. Hugh Love followed with a run-scoring double to right, and Matthew Royner brought home the tying run with a single to left.
Tower Hill would score three more in the fifth to make it 6-3, but the Vikings would close the gap to a single run in the top of the seventh inning. St. Elizabeth could not get the equalizer, however.
Nathan Moyer had three hits for the Vikings, including a single to lead off the game. He stole second and moved to third on a passed ball, then scored on a knock by Nate Thomas. Wilfredo Campos drove in a pair of runs in the fourth, singling to right with the bases loaded on an 0-2 count.
The Vikings (1-1) have little time to dwell on the setback as they welcome top-ranked St. Mark’s to Canby Park on Thursday for a 4 p.m. start. Tower Hill evened its record at 1-1 and will play at St. Andrews on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
