BRANDYWINE HUNDRED – Arnise King scored with 1:55 to go to give host Concord a 2-1 nonconference field hockey win over Archmere on a very warm Sept. 9 afternoon.

The Raiders, who dropped a 7-0 decision to the Auks last season, had several early opportunities on penalty corners but came up early thanks to the Auks’ defense. Archmere missed on a nice chance later in the first half when a shot by senior Leah DaCosta was just wide.

field hockeyThe teams picked up the offense following a water break, and sophomore Lauren Ross got the Auks on the board first. She corralled a loose rebound and found the net with 8:37 left in the half.

Concord (1-0) revved up its offense in the second half. Sarah Raab found Caroline Procak behind the defense, and Procak tied the score with 28:33 remaining. Both teams had chances as time wound down; Auks goalie Mady McDougal kept the score deadlocked with two nice saves.

With the clock winding down, King took a pass from Gianna Rapposelli and scored, giving the Raiders the winning margin.

Archmere (0-1) hosts Newark Charter on Monday at 3:45 p.m., while Concord stays at home to face Middletown on Wednesday at 3:45 p.m.
