St. Mark’s field hockey falls at Tower Hill

WILMINGTON – Laura Taschner scored three goals, and Natalie Hobbs added a pair to lead second-ranked Tower Hill past St. Mark’s, 6-0, in field hockey on Sept. 20.

The Hillers were all over the Spartans from the start, and five minutes in, Hobbs deflected a shot from Taschner for a quick 1-0 lead. Tower kept the pressure on, including four straight penalty corners, but Spartans goalie Melina Carradin stopped several quality chances.

field hockeyThe Hillers then scored twice in seven seconds, both set up by Isabelle Pilson. The first went to Taschner, the second to Hobbs. St. Mark’s tightened its defense for the remainder of the first half, and it was 3-0 at the break.

The second half opened with more pressure from Tower Hill, and Taschner added her second and third goals in the first 18 minutes. Brianna McCoy added one final goal on a penalty stroke with 8:55 to go.

Tower Hill outshot St. Mark’s, 33-1, and Carradin was credited with 15 saves. The Spartans (1-2) play at sixth-ranked Caravel on Thursday night at 7:15, while the Hillers (4-0) are at William Penn on Thursday at 3:45 p.m.
